URBINO

Urbino is known as one of the capitals of the Italian Renaissance. In fact this period recalls many buildings in the center, first of all the beautiful Palazzo Ducale with two ''Torricini'' that characterize the facade, a symbol of power and wealth of the dukes of Montefeltro. Rich in evocative environments such as the Courtyard of Honour, the Underground and the Studiolo, the palace now houses the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, whose pictorial device has some real masterpieces: "The Flagellation" and "Madonna of Senigallia" by Piero della Francesca, the "Suit" by Raphael, "Desecration of the Host" by Paolo Uccello and the "Ideal City" of Laurana. In the ancient artisans' quarter is possible to visit the birthplace of Raphael Sanzio. In this home the painter spent the first years of his life in contact with the art, learning in the workshop of his father Giovanni Santi, before moving to Florence and then Rome. There are two small speakers that preserve great works of art in the medieval quarter of San Giovanni. Oratory of S. John has maintained a cycle of frescoes of the early fifteenth century, run by brothers Salimbeni di Sanseverino. The Oratory of S. Joseph has a beautiful crib Brandani Federico, group life-size plaster sculptures created between 1545 and 1550.
